Our Mission: Clarity in the Chaos of Elder Care
Meet the team
Gen X Life Hub Team
Local research and editing for families caring for aging parents in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs
We live and work in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs. We started Gen X Life Hub because families in our area were piecing together senior care answers from a dozen sources, and most of them were doing it in a crisis.
This site is general information, not legal, medical, or financial advice. See our Disclaimer.
Gen X Life Hub was built for the "Sandwich Generation." We exist to help Gen X adults (most of us are in our mid-40s to early 60s) quickly and confidently locate verified elder care, financial, and legal resources for their aging parents in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs.
Who we write for
If you're helping a parent in the Northwest Suburbs, you already know how it starts. A fall, a hospital discharge, a Medicare letter nobody can decode, a house that has become too much. Most of the people who read this site are working, often still raising kids, and suddenly in charge of decisions they never trained for. That's who Gen X Life Hub is for.
What you'll find here
- Guides walk you through one situation step by step, like choosing home care, setting up powers of attorney, or downsizing a house room by room.
- Topic pages cover a whole category of care, such as home care, assisted living, memory care, hospice, elder law, and Medicare, with plain-English FAQs and links to the official sources.
- Community pages cover what's available town by town in Arlington Heights, Palatine, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, and Hoffman Estates: township senior services, transportation, and local programs.
- Free tools, including a care cost estimator, a Medicare eligibility checker, and a downsizing planner. They give you estimates to start a conversation, not quotes or eligibility decisions.
- Articles go deeper on the questions families ask most, like the Illinois Medicaid look-back, Veterans Aid & Attendance, and how to talk to a parent about money.

How We Research & Review
Every guide starts with primary sources: the Illinois Department on Aging, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Social Security Administration, Medicare.gov, the Cook County Assessor, and township and village websites. We don't lean on national articles for Illinois rules, because Illinois often does things differently. Medicaid asset limits are a good example.
Each guide shows when it was last updated, when it was last reviewed, and when it's due for its next review. Dollar amounts and income limits change every year, so we tie each one to a year and point you to the agency that publishes it. When we can't confirm a detail, we say so and tell you who to call. Read our full editorial policy.
What we're not
We're not attorneys, doctors, financial advisors, or a senior placement service. Nothing on this site is legal, medical, or financial advice. For decisions with real money or legal consequences, like a power of attorney, a Medicaid application, or selling a parent's house, talk to a licensed professional. Our guides tell you what kind of professional to look for and what to ask them.
How the site is paid for
Every guide, checklist, and tool is free to read, and you don't need an account to use any of it. The site is supported by display ads, and some links may earn us a commission if you buy something. That never changes what we recommend. Paid listings are labeled Sponsored or Featured, and advertisers can't pay to change or remove information. We don't sell your data. The details are in our editorial policy and privacy policy.
Why there's no single author name
Articles are written and edited by the Gen X Life Hub Editorial Team. Instead of building the site around one personality, we put our sources on the page and date every review, so you can check our work for yourself.
Help us keep it accurate
Phone numbers change, programs close, and new ones open. If you spot something out of date, or know a local program we should cover, tell us on our contact page. Corrections are the most useful thing a reader can send, and we fix factual errors quickly.
Hyper-Local Focus
National directories are overwhelming. We focus on Chicago's Northwest Suburbs, from Schaumburg and Arlington Heights to the towns around them.
Transparent Policies
Ads, affiliate links, and paid placements are clearly labeled, and our editorial policy explains how we keep them separate from what we write.
Actionable Guides
Step-by-step checklists for Illinois Medicaid, powers of attorney, home safety, and more, written for people who are short on time.
